A dor lombar durante a gestação tem uma ampla gama de causas, que variam desde apenas mudanças fisiológicas da anatomia materna a doenças osteomusculares, hérnias discais, neoplasias entre outras. A gestante deve ser minuciosamente avaliada para que não se perca a janela de oportunidade para o tratamento e leve à progressão da enfermidade. A hérnia de disco em gestantes tem uma incidência de 1:10.000, e seu manejo e decisão terapêutica devem ser individualizados, baseando-se na resposta da paciente ao tratamento conservador e avaliando riscos e benefícios do tratamento cirúrgico. A cirurgia tem boa segurança, tanto para mãe e concepto, e apresenta uma alta taxa de resolutividade.References
