Abstract

Com o avanço na expectativa de vida da população, está cada vez mais comum receber pacientes idosos em ambiente ambulatorial e que quase sempre apresentam alguma alteração sistêmica. O uso de anticoagulantes por parte desses pacientes é um exemplo disso, visando evitar a ocorrência de tromboembolismo e fibrilação atrial. O principal efeito colateral da terapia anticoagulante é o risco de hemorragia apresentado por esses pacientes. Esse efeito pode se tornar uma contraindicação de procedimentos odontológicos cirúrgicos, como por exemplo as exodontias. Ainda existem muitas controvérsias sobre as condutas a serem seguidas para atender com segurança esses pacientes, já que alguns profissionais preferem interromper o uso das medicações e outros contraindicam esse ato. O uso de agentes hemostáticos vem sendo descrito como alternativa viável e eficaz durante o tratamento odontológico, para que esses indivíduos não precisem interromper a sua terapia anticoagulante. Com isso, este artigo tem como objetivo realizar uma revisão de literatura, utilizando as bases de dados PubMed, BVS (BibliotecaVirtual em Saúde) e SciELO, para   Foram utilizados os descritores em saúde (DeCs e MeSH): “Hemostático”, “Hemorragia bucal”, e “Anticoagulantes”.
