Abstract

The use of green roofs has gained strength in the current world scenario mainly because of its diverse benefits, however, the quality of the water drained from these systems has been a target of concern. Therefore, more studies on water quality are of great importance, as well as the search for different methodologies involving different substrates and vegetation that can contribute to the solution of this problem. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate chemical, physical parameters and concentration of heavy metals in the water drained from three different experimental prototypes (conventional roof, model green roof and green roof with phytoremediation plants) and three substrate compositions. The concentrations of each parameter were then presented, making it evident that the green phytoremediation roof presented the best results compared to the model green roof, improving its apparent color, pH, turbidity and even reducing the precipitation of some heavy metals, thus being a good intercropping of plants to be used.
