Abstract

O presente estudo, utilizando-se de uma revisão da literatura científica, analisou a importância da hidratação corporal com relação ao desempenho esportivo durante a realização do exercício físico com predominância aeróbia. A  água representa entre 45 e 70% da massa corporal, sendo portanto fundamental ao funcionamento do organismo. Numerosos estudos tem demonstrado que atletas dificilmente consomem a quantidade de água necessária antes, durante ou após a realização de exercícios físicos. Uma perda hídrica acima de 1 % da massa corporal, denomina-se desidratação. A desidratação corporal aumenta a probabilidade de prejuízo ao desempenho esportivo. Alguns dados indicam que a ingestão de líquidos aprimora a capacidade de realizar provas atléticas que possuam  duração inferior a 1 h, e outros sugerem que essa não é uma ocorrência generalizada. Muitas evidências levam a crer que o efeito da reposição dos líquidos sobre o desempenho físico, possa ser mais perceptível durante um exercício com duração superior a 1 h e ou durante temperatura ambiente elevada. No que diz respeito a reposição de eletrólitos em um exercício com duração superior a 1h, estes devem ser acrescentados à solução para reposição dos líquidos afim de aprimorar a palatabilidade e reduzir a probabilidade do surgimento de hiponatremia.
