Abstract

A Síndrome de Obesidade - Hipoventilação (SOH) é caracterizada pela presença de obesidade e hipercapnia, desde que sejam excluídas outras causas. Neste estudo, relatamos o caso de uma paciente de 54 anos, portadora de Diabetes Mellitus, Hipertensão Arterial Sistêmica, obesidade e hipotireoidismo que foi admitida em serviço de pronto atendimento com quadro de dispneia, dessaturação, sonolência e hiperemia em face. Após investigação, com exames laboratoriais e de imagem, foi evidenciado que a paciente apresentava critérios para SOH. Foram instituídas medidas, principalmente não farmacológicas, e a paciente apresentou boa evolução do quadro. Esse estudo demonstra, portanto, o quanto é relevante realizar diagnóstico precoce, reconhecer a patologia e iniciar a abordagem terapêutica de forma imediata. Apenas dessa forma é possível reduzir os prejuízos da doença a longo prazo.
