Abstract

O padrão alimentar é o fator mais determinante na definição da composição e diversidade da microbiota intestinal, e seu desequilíbrio contribui para o aumento do risco de doenças inflamatórias crônicas, como a depressão. A depressão afeta mais de 322 milhões de pessoas no mundo, sendo mais comum nas mulheres do que nos homens. Realizou-se revisão das evidências recentes sobre a influência da alimentação e da microbiota intestinal sobre a depressão em mulheres. Foi realizada uma revisão nas bases de dados da SciELO, PubMed, BVS/BIREME e LILACS, com data de publicação nos últimos 10 anos. Verificou-se que o desequilíbrio da microbiota intestinal e a deficiência de nutrientes, principalmente vitaminas, minerais e a diminuição dos antioxidantes circulantes estão associados à depressão.  Portanto, uma alimentação adequada tem efeito positivo na prevenção ou redução dos sintomas depressivos em diferentes ciclos da vida e condições entre as mulheres, assim como uso de alimentos e/ou suplementos a base de prebióticos, probióticos e simbióticos mostram-se benéficos.
