Hipertireoidismo felino: Diagnóstico e tratamento de uma das endocrinopatologias mais frequentes em felinos adultos / Feline hyperthyroidism: Diagnosis and treatment of one of the most frequent endocrinopathologies in adult felines

El hipertiroidismo es la endocrinopatía más común que afecta a los gatos mayores de 8 años y se asocia a la excesiva producción y secreción de T3 y T4 por la glándula tiroides. Los cambios patológicos hallados son principalmente neoplásicos como adenomas e hiperplasias adenomatosas y, en menor proporción, carcinomas tiroideos. Los signos clínicos pueden variar desde adelgazamiento y mal aspecto general, tiroides palpables y signos gastrointestinales, hasta cambios a nivel del sistema cardiocirculatorio y renal. El diagnóstico clínico de la patología consiste en diferenciar enfermedades tiroideas de las extratiroideas y determinar la presencia de hipertiroidismo conjuntamente con otras enfermedades. Los métodos de diagnóstico complementario son confirmatorios. La medición sérica del perfil tiroideo permite establecer el grado de elevación de las hormonas T3 y T4, la ecografía cervical ayuda a evaluar la ecoestructura glandular y la centellografia permite indentificar la enfermedad tiroidea etiológicamente y definir el grado de severidad. El tratamiento médico consiste en la administración de drogas como metimazol, carbimazol e yodo radioactivo y el quirúrgico en la ablasión completa de la glándula afectada.
