Abstract

A COVID-19 é uma doença que afeta menos crianças que adultos, sendo o primeiro grupo afetado em um grau menos severo. A expressão de ACE2, receptor do vírus SARS-CoV-2 na célula humana, é um dos fatores que pode influenciar nesse fato. Com isso, a revisão sistemática investigou a forma como o vírus SARS-CoV-2 infecta as células humanas com ênfase na diferença da gravidade da infecção com base na expressão desigual de ACE2 entre adultos e crianças. Para tal, foram utilizadas as bases de dados SciELO, PubMed e ScienceDirect para a seleção dos artigos, sem restrição de linguagem e publicados em 2020. Os artigos procurados foram os que tratavam da expressão de ACE2 e infecção por SARS-CoV-2 em adultos e crianças, seguindo critérios de inclusão e exclusão. Assim, foram selecionados dez artigos e utilizados sete, além de trinta retirados das referências dos textos selecionados. Os dados coletados demonstraram a presença de mais casos e maior gravidade da infecção em adultos, além de um aumento progressivo da expressão de ACE2 com o avanço da idade, a qual está relacionada ao prolongamento do ciclo de vida do vírus e à melhora da sua replicação. Com isso, reforça-se a hipótese de que o aumento da expressão da ACE2 conforme a idade é um fator decisivo para infecção e gravidade da doença, embora não seja o único.
